Yesterday we received a call from Tucker Watson who noticed an injured juvenile Bald Eagle on the side of the road in Baltimore County that was struggling to fly. We called around some of our various partners and volunteers and luckily Laura Kurrle was available and dispatched right away. After being advised by our friends at Phoenix Wildlife Center, Inc. and with a properly sized carrier they provided, Laura met with Tucker to attempt to wrangle the bird of prey. Working together and after fighting through some thorn bushes, they successfully got the eagle into the carrier so it could be transported.
Once at Chadwell Animal Hospital, their wonderful staff assessed and x-rayed the eagle to determine the extent of its injuries. Our latest update was that it had an old fracture that would require rehabilitation and will be transferred to Frisky’s Wildlife & Primate Sanctuary, Inc. who will do everything they can ensure this incredible bird may once again soar over across Maryland skies if it is able.
As you can see from this one call, it can often take a whole community pitching in and working together to help our wildlife. We are forever grateful to all of you who care enough to call, help out and support both us and our wonderful partners who make all of this work possible.
