We get all sorts of rescue calls and last week we had a rather interesting one. This Gray Squirrel was reported in the town of Rising Sun in Cecil County as being trapped behind some cable TV wires on the outside of a house. It seemed like it had been there for some time and was distressed, especially with the high temperatures. When we arrived and approached it with an outreached, gloved hand, it spun around several times and thrashed itself out of the wiring into the air until it caught onto the side of the front porch. From there it darted about ten feet, did a few frantic loops around and then scaled the front of the house and off it went. It did its best to disorient what it perceived as a would-be predator and it was certainly successful at that, we couldn’t help but laugh at this goofy animal that got itself stuck and unstuck in such a comedic fashion. Sometimes you just have to help wildlife rescue itself.
