We are so excited to have received this wonderful gift for our Baltimore Checkerspot Butterfly restoration project! Haley Bosley-Smith of Girl Scout Troop 1836 has completed building this enclosure for her Gold Award project! While her team was building it our first batch of caterpillars were still feeding on White Turtlehead plants within view of the work area. Our goal is to pack this enclosure full of host plants and use it a control so that we hopefully ensure a healthy continued source population for our site and others across a variety of potential variables. We will experiment with some caterpillars being protected inside insect dorms like earlier this year and others in a more natural state to see if predators such as wasps and birds have a significant impact. We are beyond grateful for Haley and our other dedicated scouts who have donated so many great elements to our Wildlife Center.
